(A poem for the New Year – 2022)
The clock struck twelve and people cheered:
A New Year’s now upon us!
Car horns blowing, cycles vrooming,
Fireworks fill the sky.
Amid the noise, the people ask,
“Will things go better now this time?”
Their hopes are up, but not too much.
It won’t be easy to forget
A once-in-a-lifetime tragedy
That brought the whole world to its knees,
That taught it how to fear and pray.
Is the worst over or just delayed?
