An Ox to the Slaughter

An Ox to the Slaughter

I’ve entered a dark cavern;
Tempted to go deep,
Until the faintest light is gone
And I’m as blind as Elymas.

The air is warm, the walls are moist;
My pace I quicken — then, a noise:
There in the dark, some steps away,
A Monster crouches for its prey.

I hasten to my doom!
