dogimo, I would not be as quick to assume that Luther was not familiar with Augustine's works, especially his City of God... that said, one thing that we do get from Augustine is "All truth is God's truth". I am fine with Ghandi being the person who coined the phrase.. but that is not the point. I am not sure that we can actually love the sinner and still claim to 'not' be an enemy of God - we are called to love what God loves and hate what he hates... I find it difficult, actually impossible, to separate a sinner from his/her sin - the sin because that is what they are not the other way around!

The real trouble is that we humans have an imperfect love and an ill-intended hate. God knows and shows pure love, and righteous anger/hate/wrath... until we are God I believe we should go on loving everyone, while also not approving of their wickedness (their very person and all they do = sinners).

I just wanted to let you know about a biography of John Calvin I wrote last year for young readers. It is published by Reformation Heritage Books, Grand Rapids, MI, USA, and presently also in Italian and Indonesian. You can read something about it in the links in my blog http://simonetta-carr.blogspot.com/
If you are interested, I can send you some sample pages.
Thank you,

Hi Bob! Just saw your comment. I'm very happy to hear about KC's progress and love for reading. I'm sorry I can't say much about the European Neighborhood Policy and the Lisbon Treaty; I really don't know much about these things. Re: the Pretrib rapture doctrine, many in our baptist association subscribe to this view. I haven't really made up my mind what view to hold; what's important to me is that Christ is sure to return! John MacArthur holds to the pretrib view; John Piper doesn't: he's an amillenialist. Both are very godly men, so I can't really say that being pretrib (or not being pretrib) makes it easier for you to fall away in the last days. Anyway, regards to Ging and KC, and God bless all of you.

Gabbers, Augustine of Hippo finished his City of God in the year 0,426. I don't doubt that Martin Luther was familiar with the quote, and may have used it.

Clearly the saying is strongly in accord with what biblical precepts, but nowhere in the bible is this idea expressed with anywhere near this level of spot-on concision. I think we have to give the quote to Augustine.

very informative. :)

would you know if we have laws on when should an employee receive his separation pay? i'm asking because i know someone who has been lawfully dismissed and the company he worked for would give him a separation pay. but the problem now is that the separation pay is taking too long before it is granted. it has been more than a month since he was able to accomplish his clearance but the separation pay is still not yet given to him.

Jesus Christ called and gifted John Calvin to be a doctor of laws, humble pastor, brilliant theologian, conscientious teacher, and prolific writer. Akin to him your preachings, teachings, songs, and keyboard musics proclaim the excellencies of God. We hope to see you every Friday 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Ebenezer CRC for the Institutes of Amazing Grace. Beautiful 500th birthday cake. Solid Deo Gloria! :-)
